The UQÀM-University of Memphis epigraphic project at Karnak: goals, methodology and results
Since 2011, the University of Quebec in Montreal and the University of Memphis have been working on a joint project inside the vast Hypostyle Hall of the temple of Amen-Ra at Karnak (present-day Luxor) to investigate the hieroglyphic texts and scenes carved onto its 134 columns. The workshop will outline the context for this project, which is presented in the Museum’s family area, describing its objectives, methodology (which relies on technology) and the main results to date. More generally, it will focus on the temple of Karnak’s importance as a fundamental institution in pharaonic Egypt and will be illustrated with many objects from the site that are displayed in the exhibition Egyptian Mummies.
